My art is writing, and this is happening to me right now. However, it could happen to anyone who creates, so I titled the post for all of us.
I bought myself a thumb drive a year or so ago so I could save my writing on a portable device and open it on any computer any time in case I didn’t have my own with me and inspiration hit. I had a lot of stuff on there that I started and stopped and will probably never look at again, but I alsi had the beginning of a novel that I think has a lot of potential and I liked what I’d written so far. I’ve stepped away from that project to work on another, but have every intention of going back to it.
I can’t find my thumb drive. Anywhere.
It was in a small inside — zipped — pocket of my purse and it’s not there anymore. I checked my desk at home. Nope. My desk at work? Not there, either.
I’m going to have to tear my house apart this weekend, if not tonight. My hope is I left it on the desk and one of the cats knocked it down and under the couch (and hopefully not to the no-man’s land where they’ve hidden some of my costume jewelry).
If it’s not there, I have no idea where it is. At all.
The funny thing is, there’s a small notebook that I kept in another pocket of my purse that’s also missing. There was nothing important on it, but it was in a metal case with a dragon (my Chinese astrological sign) on it and I really liked it.
I keep wondering if I put both those things in another purse and forgot.
There’s still a chance!
What’s keeping me from complete panic is that I remembered (thank goodness!) that I posted the manuscript so-far on a Facebook page my friend Amy and I started to motivate each other in our writing endeavors, so while I’ll have some formatting issues, at least the words are out there where I can get them again.
Someone must be watching out for me.
