Apparently, I’m a little behind the times. I think I may have at some point heard some vague reference to this in the past, but last week, someone on the radio mentioned planking in a way that made me want to search the Internet for more information.
The description in Wikipedia: The lying down game (also known as planking or face downs) is an activity, popular in various parts of the world, consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The location should also be as public as possible, and as many people as possible should be involved.
And now an Australian man is dead because of it. He fell off a building upon which he tried to plank.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I most definitely don’t want an obituary that says I died while trying to lie down so I could post a photo of myself on the Internet … lying down.
I think this is a very large, blinking, neon sign that people have too much free time.
But it’s kind of funny … as long as you don’t die.
